postfix is not a mailserver, postfix is a MTU (Mail Transfer Agent)
i.e. the service working the SMTP

you need a mailserver such as Dovecot or Cyrus, etc.

I know that.
But cyrus also is not a mailser [as in autonomous]
My need is that the user must be aware of remaining mailspace depend upon the size of /var/spool/mail/<username> comapring with mailbox_size_limit parameter of /etc/postfix/main.cf

got it?

wtf? cyrus is a mail server - it handles pop and imap requests (depending on setup and config), is not a proxy and stores mail for various users who are setup... now you tell me what that makes it!!!

+ i am not aware of any of the popular mail servers being autonomous - they all require at least an mta! (hmmm - i think postfix is one)

as for postfix and quotas check out this:
http://www.postfix.org/addon.html#quota
this was by the way returned by the search engine on postfix.org when searching for quota!!

have a read...

what mail server are you runing?

make sure cyrus has the quota set first of all - then when postfix passes mail on to cyrus and quota is full then cyrus should reject the mail and it should bounce... but i am not quite sure - but still - get cyrus quota working first before postfix quota support
