Mail Server solution to access from Outlook

Hi,

I am installing RHEL 6.3 Server with NIS and NFS for a customer who wants to make this as a Mail server also which can be accessible from Outlook.I am unable to find out any, also not sure whether Sendmail or Devcott or any, which are available with RHEL are compatible with outlook.

Please help.

Outlook is able to access any POP3 or IMAP mail server so sendmail/postfix as the MTA and dovecot as the POP/IMAP server will work just fine. (Indeed we were using sendmail/dovecot at work until I arranged outsourcing, but that's another story.)

If your customer wants to do things like shared calendars / appointments / centralised address book etc. then you'll need to look for additional "groupware" software to support that. I hear that Zarafa is highly regarded.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply, also please help on support of Rich Text or more, which are available on outlook. Because as far as I could find out that Sendmail supports normal text only.

Please help.

Go do some Google research on how e-mail actually works, especially with regard to things like content / attachment encoding.

sendmail can handle it all just fine.

You could use ZImbra Network edition which has an Outlook connector to work like it would with exchange

Thanks
