Mail server restore

Hello everyone

We had a power shortage for a brief moment and the voltage was low for very short time. During this time our mail server running on Adaptec SCSI 2110s Raid controller did something wird to the raid setup and one of the disk changed state to Failed.
We managed to restore the raid and both disks is now working correctly.
However after running the "fsck.reiserfs" util several times, the file system now seams ok for this program.
However during boot time severel processes fail to start as system files are missing. The files have simple gone missing O.o

Now I have an external backup of this Mail server, and im now ghosting the faulty setup DD to mount on another linux server for data recovery.

However when I try to restore the backup and overwrite all the default config files and directories in Imap. Will the user rigths be restored as well? Or in short will it boot after a fresh install and data restore of directories/files?

For information:
The server is runing SuSE Open Exchange 4.1 (SuSE Enterprice 8.1) and ofcourse is using Cyrus mail software. (Which is operating on directory/File level for mail storage)

Im not going home from work before the mail server is running O.o

Please post if someone need more info or otherwice have questions

What sort of backup do you have? If you backed up the permissions then they should be restored.

The file permissions are stored on as part of the filesystem, they are not stored in a specific file. It really depends on the type of backup you are making.

I did a Disk to Disk ghost of the faulty file system before attempting anything...

I installed the system from scratch and then did a normal file copy "cp" of the config files and settings / mail data. Did a reconfig of /etc/fstab and made a "fsck" and after that the system was running as before. (Peew)
