mail server


Hi I would like to know how I can configure sendmail in my linux server so that I can have the mails recieved at my server be directed to one of my regular email ids ... I also want to create an email id in my server .... I use suse linux ... PLs guide me

I don't quite follow you, as every system user has it's on uid.
Sendmail by default "redirects" emails to the propriate unix users maildrop.

can you specify a little more on what you trying to achieve?

OK .. I will try to explain what I am looking for ... When someone visits my website and clicks the mailto:me@myserver.com then I want that email to be redirected to my yahoo accnt.
Btw I dont know how to set up the sendmail as well ... Can you put some light on that as well.

Hi,

Do you have online server, do that server has some control panel ??

If you don't have control panel than you need to modify Sendmail's configuration setting for account and domain you want your mail be redirected.

But its better if you can answer my above question.

No I dont have any control panel ... could explain it a bit more detailed ...

what you want is done in the /etc/mail/aliases file (assuming the configuration files of sendmail are in /etc/mail)

Add the following line to the file:
unixuser: accountat@yahoo.com

example:

sharp81: sharp81@yahoo.com

after adding this line, run newaliases command.
you should get something like:
/etc/mail/aliases: 1 aliases, longest 98 bytes, 4035 bytes total
as output..

that's all

nope I did not get any output when I did the thinks u told me to follow ...

I tried doing it .. but the mail bounced back ... I tried to send the email to user@myserver.com and it said mail delivery failed ... I am not sure if my sendmail is configured properly ... Could you tell me how this could be done
