well i guess thats all a matter of opinion, i'd suggest you go the wu-imap & sendmail route for slackware, wu-imap & sendmail is built into slackware already. But if you really want an opinion on a mail server i'd say your using the wrong distro. check out my website listed below (my hosting company is having some sql issues right at this moment but it should be up soonish ... hopfully) there is plently of information on setting up a mail server using dovecot, fedora and postfix, there is all kinds of information on using mailscanner, clamav, active directory and openldap with your mail server.
