Mail question

I have a sort of general question, and it seems that this forum is the best place to ask. To wit:

I would like to be able to check my email from anywhere, from any computer. My email is currently fetched from several POP3 servers, and filtered into a number of different Categorization folders. I have heard of something called IMAP, but I have no experience with it, I only know my ISP offers it. KMail also has a disconnected IMAP option, but again, i have no idea what it does. I would like to be able to:

1. Access my email with any computer, but I am willing to compromise and only use computers that have IMAP and/or POP3 email clients.

2. I want my email to be filtered, both for spam and categorization. I have built up a SpamAssassin database on my home computer, and if the Filtering can be done on that computer, it would rock.

My ideal setup would be that my home computer uses IMAP to filter the messages into appropriate IMAP folders on my ISP's server. I want to be able to then access these *filtered* emails from any IMAP client. Is this possible? The only limitation is that my home computer connects through dialup and is not always online. Is the any way to solve my email woes? Thanks in advance!

If your home computer updates the IMAP store on the server, then anywhere you access it from should be updated. You might see SOME unfiltered things before your home computer gets around to it, though.
