mail notify

is it possible to configure the shell's "mail" command to notify logged user when a new mail has come via POP3? or on yahoo.com? or on hotmail.com? If so, how do I do it?

I've never set anything like that up myself but it might be possible to do this using fetchmail, to fetch the mail to the user account and then their notified, etc.
