Mac will no longer boot from MacOS CD!!

Hi,
My parents got tired of Linux and wanted MacOS 9 back, so i popped in the cd and tried to boot from it...bootstrap stage 1 boot selector thing came up and i hit 'c' for boot from cd-rom...screen blinked...and went right back to stage 1 boot screen. I hit 'c' again, did the same thing, then froze.

Then tried a different cd, same thing happened. Then wiped the hard drive, got rid of Linux altogether, however now my G4 completely refuses to boot from any cd except Mandrake 9.1 PPC. I've tried resetting PRAM, resetting OpenFirmware stuff, reset-nvram, set-defaults, reset-all, etc. It won't boot from anything except the Mandrake CD. Please help. thanks.

I know this is a linux forum and this has less to do with linux than an actual mac, but I was hoping someone expert in PPC linux and boot structure could provide some assistance. Thanks.

Have you tried holding down 'c' when you power-up? That's the usual mac way to get the machine to boot from CD.

lol

I'm not a new mac user, i know the keyboard commands...
but i do appreciate the help

I'm clueless though about firmware...does anyone think it is possible for Mandrake to alter the computer's firmware in some way? If that were so that would be the clear reason...

Try CMD-OPT-SHIFT-DELETE instead of C when booting.

have you reset the PRAM....?

yes. I've done everything like that. I need to find out how to restore the firmware that came with the mac. Linux changed it to that yaboot thing and I can't get it off. Any help with that would be appreciated.
