Mac programs on Linux

Does anybody know of a way to run older Macintosh (pre OSX programs) on Linux in X? I'm not talking about with an full emulator where you must emulate just the hardware and then virtually put an OS on it and software ontop of that, I mean actually running the programs through X, as Wine does for Windows programs. I would also like to do this from an x86 PC, not from a Macintosh with linux installed.

Thanks,
Marshall

This is not possible. You can only use Wine to run (x86) Windows programs on x86 Linux machines. You cannot use Wine on PowerPC, SPARC, or any other non-x86 architectures. Likewise, you cannot run (PowerPC) Mac programs on x86 without processor emulation.

If you are running Linux on a Mac computer (PowerPC architecture), you should look into Mac on Linux. If you're running Linux on a "Windows" computer (Intel or Intel-compatible architecture) you can't do it without full emulation.

essentially you need to install Mac OS X (I'm also assuming the program is for PowerPC):

* if you are running Linux on PowerPC (i.e. a Mac), then you can install Mac OS X on the Mac-on-Linux virtual machine

* otherwise, you can install Mac OS X on the PearPC emulator
