LyX example file does not exist

I installed LyX to try it out and the built-in tutorial wants me to play around with the file "example_raw.lyx", but I can't find it anywhere!

Look for it in /usr/share/lyx/examples/example_raw.lyx

I find this note in the LyX wiki for Mac (http://wiki.lyx.org/Mac/Mac)
Quote:
The example LyX files are actually now located inside the application. In Finder, highlight the LyX application, then select action "Show Package Contents". Follow Contents->Resources->examples.
The materials do seem to be there. A bit annoying, since they won't copy to other computers when I sync. But they're there.

I don't understand that, or what Finder does.

I just tried what "unutterable" wrote and it works.

Try this:
1)In the Finder, locate the application Lyx.
2)Control click on it. That is, hold down the key that says "control" on it, and click.
3)A menu comes up. The first item is "SHow package contents". CLick on that.
4)A window opens up that has a whole directory tree in it! Bizaare! What you want is under:
COntents>Resources>examples>example_raw.lyx
5)Double click on that file, and it will open in Lyx.

This is a late post (6 months?) so it is here for posterity for future googlers.

I thought it was obvious enough, but I use Linux, not Mac OS X.

As @bigrigdriver had post example_raw.lyx and example_lyxified.lyx (reported in lyx tutorial) almost in Ubuntu Linux are sited in /usr/share/lyx/examples directory.

Anyway whatever is your Linux distribution go to distro's package manager and trough it search for example_raw.lyx file. For example for .deb packages:
Code:
harrykar@harrysas:~$ dpkg --search example_raw.lyx
lyx-common: /usr/share/lyx/examples/hu/example_raw.lyx
lyx-common: /usr/share/lyx/examples/he/example_raw.lyx
lyx-common: /usr/share/lyx/examples/example_raw.lyx
harrykar@harrysas:~$
