LXDE gripe

I just downloaded LXDE to try it out for the second time, and noticed that it comes with xscreensaver, which apparently cannot be uninstalled without uninstalling LXDE. That's unfortunate: I never use screensavers, and don't like installing things I never use. If I recall, KDE's (my usual environment) screensaver can certainly be uninstalled.

Can you not just disable it? (Start-->System Tools-->XScreenSaver Setup then click the top drop down and change to "Disable Screen Saver")

What distribution are you using.

It's quite probable 'lxde' is a metapackage - a package that installs (virtually) nothing itself, but has a bunch of dependencies, allowing all the dependencies to be easily installed. This is the case on Ubuntu, for example.

It's MEPIS 8. @ Xavier: Sure I could disable it, but the program would still be there, taking up some space on my hard drive. That's why it annoys me.

By the way, I think screensavers are just a toy anyway, because why don't people just turn their monitors off if they're going to leave. For sure, back when I did use a screensaver, it was a toy. That 3-D maze screensaver that the full version of Windows 95 had was really neat, and who doesn't like using a marquee screensaver to flash obnoxious messages at people.

Simple do not install the "lxde" metapackage, instead only install the parts that you need/want.
