ltmodem on slackware 10

I cant get it to install correctly at all...

I installed it on redhat fine (thanks to pre-working rpms)
but now I compile it from source, and try to execute wvdialconf...

it seems that /dev/ttyLT0 is having i/o errors, and wvdial passes right by it without noticing my modem!!!

my modem is supported by ltmodem, I used it under redhat....
if someone could help me id be very grateful...
