lsof -a -p <pid> is taking too long to finish


On a particular system lsof -a -p <pid> is taking too long to finish . I need to press ctrl+c to abort it.

After machine restarted probelm vanished.

Obviously you need to tell something about that pid, otherwise noone will be able to give you any hint.

Pid can be any process pid. I found the solution.
lsof command was taking too long because of /mnt/ drive was down. But i want to know how to debug this scenario.
