lpd server with CUPS not working

I am trying but failing to send print to a linux box running CUPS using lpd: i.e lpr -S ipaddress -P PRT -d test.txt.

The messages in /var/log/cups/error_log is as below

AcceptClient() 5 from ipaddress:515
..
..
Bad request line "PRT"!

I have added a member to /etc/xinetd.d called printer with the parms from the documentation.
The printer queues (all networked) work on the local machine.

There is clearly something I am missing in the area of destinations, and printer names but I don't know what.

I am running Mandrake 9.2 , kernel 2.4.26 with Cups 1.1
