Lowercase to Uppercase


there are many folders and files,whoes names are all lowercase, how to covert the lowercase to uppercase one time on my linux system? Could the kindly man help me? many thanks,

I don't think you want to do this...

If you mean folders such as /etc, /usr, /var, /home, and so on, then you would cause great trouble by changing them to Uppercase. The Linux filesystem is case-sensitive. Filenames like 'FILE', 'File', 'FilE' and 'FIlE' are different in Linux. Changing the Linux filesystem filenames to uppercase would make the operating system commands unable to locate their files, which would break your system in a very fundamental way. I don't think you want to do this. Getting used to lower case names is easier.

Assuming you're not going to rename files which should not be renamed (see geoff_f's post), you can do it with the "rename" program. There's even that exact example in the manual page for that program (well, OK the example converts upper to lower case, but it's trivial to flip the command).
