Low Resolution Console?

i compiled a new kernel (2.4.20) to get rid of the bloated stock 2.4.18 that came with the original installation (slack8.1). well, i'm sure it was just a stupid mistake on my part, but since i started running the new kernel, my console resolution is back to the default size (low) which isn't really a big deal, but i'd like it to be back at 1024x768x256 so i can keep up with IRC chat and lynx. everything else works fine, but does anyone know what i may have left out when i configured the new kernel?

forgot to mention that i've already checked my lilo.conf file and it's a-ok.

ok, thanks to the guys in the slackware forum i was able to fix the problem. in case anyone else has the same problem, when you compile your new kernel enable the code maturity level option for access to the experimental features. then under Console drivers, enable Frame-buffer support, and compile the kernel. after you've done that (i didn't have to do this), edit your /etc/lilo.conf file and set vga=XXX where XXX corresponds to the resolution tag number (listed below in the file itself) you desire. reboot with the new kernel and it should be in the resolution you selected.

damn, i missed that double post completey. in future, please don't ask a question more than once.

Holy Macaroni 02-27-2003 05:26 PM

yeah, i'm sorry about that. my original post was in the slackware board, but when i decided it would probably get a better chance of correspondence here, i tried to delete the original post and it wouldn't let me.

that's fine, just tying up loose ends for the sake of it.
