lost ldap admin password

I'm trying to set up ldap for egroupware using this howto

http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/555

but don't recall being asked for an admin password when I set up the ldap server, and now don't know what it is, so when I carry out the following comand I get the subsequent error

Code:
egroupware:/home/sean# ldapadd -W -x -v -D cn=admin,dc=hwcp,dc=org,dc=uk < ous.ldif
ldap_initialize( <DEFAULT> )
Enter LDAP Password:
ldap_bind: Invalid credentials (49)

does anyone know how to recover or replace the original?

The password is stored in /etc/ldap/slap.conf (look for the rootpw entry). If you're lucky it would be unecrypted, else you need to run:
Code:
slappasswd
give a new password and copy/paste the output in /etc/ldap/slapd.conf to replace the previous rootpw entry. Then restart the server.
