Looking for video player with specific feature

I am looking for a Linux video player with a specific feature. I want it to be able to run in OSD mode: the window should appear at given x,y coordinate of my screen and have an user defined size as well, on top on all windows, even on top of any full screen OpenGL app like a game. Is there such a thing? Thanks.

Mplayer, you'll have to test it for that on top of OpenGL game thing.
config

Code:
# Write your default config options here!

#screen placment
geometry=1%:10%

#layer placment
gui-wid=5
# or
ontop=y

#screen size
x=60
y=40

This has a couple of rough edges, but works. Thank you.

Reopening and bumping this because mplayer doesn't seem to honor the geometry setting for videos encoded with h264 codec - the player window always appears at the upper left screen edge. It works for other formats like mpeg4 for example.

This works here
Code:
mplayer -geometry 1%:10% BigBang12_4.mp4
mplayer -geometry 10%:10% BigBang12_4.mp4
mplayer -geometry 30%:30% BigBang12_4.mp4
Code:
ffprobe BigBang12_4.mp4

can you try mpv instead?
it is based on mplayer, a huge effort to make mplayer better and weed out the cruft.
it is by most definitions the new standard media player for Linux.

apart from that, i think the functionality you want is really the windowmanager's task!

This motivated me to look further. By trial and error, I have discovered that while the setting doesn't work for me on dwm in monocle layout (like I said above, for some reason, just for h264 videos), mplayer honors it if I switch layout to floating before starting it! Which means I'm going to mark the thread as solved again.

I am aware of mpv, but I really never had any reasons to try it, I definitely have a closer look at it.
