Looking for open source/free icon creation software

I'm helping out on a couple of sourceforge projects and I am looking for an open source icon creation tool for linux. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

i dont know if this is what you are thinking of. But how about using Inkscape or another vector graphics program. Then creating png images of the icons at various sizes from the svg.

or how about kicon edit

i would probobly go with the vector graphics idea for the scalability of the images and things.

although im not a graphics person i dont really know much
