Looking for new desktop system

I have been using PCLinuxOS for the past ahhhh 15 years and am tired of it's problems, also seeing the dwindling traffic on its forum am wondering about it's existence. I'm looking for a system much like PCLinuxOS which is - RPM - KDE - open root login - no sudo - Any info as to the existence of a like system would be much appreciated.

You might want to do a bit of research at HTTPS://WWW.DISTROWATCH.COM.

Keep in mind that most distributions come with one or more Desktop Environments (DE) installed, but with many others available with a few clicks.

have a look at opensuse 15.2

i have been running it with the kde desktop for many years and have not had any issues with it

and root can login
you can also set up "sudo" if you want but it is disabled by default if you create a root account at the time of install

So anything that uses RPM?

Go nuts. A distro is nothing more than pre configured to a design. They all use the same software, maybe different versions. There is nothing that one distro can do that another can't. All that is different is effort involved.

If has to be rpm based, Mageia is maintained, and active. I ran Mandrake, and Mandriva. Mageia is community based, and is a derivative of Mandriva.

PCLinuxOS is not just RPM, it's APT-over-RPM. Another distro that uses this combination is ALT Linux. It's similar to PCLinuxOS in some other aspects, too. The problem is, ALT is mostly documented in Russian.

I also use Mageia. I've been using it on one machine or other since v. 3 and have been very happy with it. Indeed, I'm typing this from my Mageia box.

I second Mageia. You'll feel right at home since PCLinuxOS was originally based off a fork of Mandrake, Mageia's predecessor. You'll recognize the Mageia's Control Center since both it and the PCLOS Control Center are based on the old Mandrake Control Center(mcc).

I'm going to try Mageia on my old laptop see what happens if that's not what I want I'll have to keep trying others
thanks to all
