looking for MTA with main focus on security and performance, etc

Main focus on the MTA should be
  • general security of the MTA
  • performance and stability
  • pop before smtp support (probably through other software, etc)
  • smtp authentification support
  • ssl support
  • virtual domain support

The volume is about 3000 messages / day [~ 1 GB / day].

Which MTA would be the best one in that case from your personal experience(OS is Debian 3.0) ?

Documents about the implementation of SMTP AUTH, POP-BEFORE-SMTP available ? If so, maybe some URLs ...

Postfix itself looks like a nice product, but so does Exim, so if anybody has experience with both of them please be so kind and post your comments :-)

No idea but you might want to try to post your question to the debian-user mailing list.Great place for debian info.
Forgot:Post it to the english list - on the german list they are more concerned about your line wrapping than your questions.

For those of you with interest in this topic you should take a look at Postfix or qmail. They are the result of my reasearch!

This document might be of help with your personal research!
