The DoD wipe is a fallacy but one known to work on spinning rust as well as just writing zeros once. It's actually been proven and acknowledged by the guy who came up with it himself.

Yeah, I agree with you. Simple zeroing would suffice OR a 2-pass zero if you're paranoid. Or for NVMe, the secure erase command (which we have yet to retire anything using NVMe). But, my manager wanted to do DOD level just to be safe, so I set it to do DOD level to make him be all happy!!
