Looking for a media menu interface for tv (mms stream channels, divx/xvid)

I've got an x86 set top box (STB) that I'd like to use for the IPTV mms streams I have and sometimes watch Divx/Xvid movies that I upload to the hard drive. I would prefer the menu interface to support LiRC type remote input, and possibility of assignment of channel numbers and channel number input. No TV tuner support or recording needed or wanted.
I don't know very much about MythTV, but I'm not sure whether it would do what I want.
Anyone know of such applications? I haven't used MS Media Center whole lot but I think its the type of interface I'm looking for.
Thanks in advance.

I'll give MythTV a shot. I suppose Mythbuntu makes it easy to try it... If it works for me, I can get it onto a distro on my choice then.
Still, is there anything lighter out there?
