Looking for a few good Apps....
 

I have been dual booting my machine between Windows and Linux for some time and I finally decided to make the complete switch to Linux. I installed Fedora Core 1 and have never looked back, however I need some suggestions for applications. I was a pretty hard core Windows user for years and came to rely on certain apps and now I need to find Linux equivelants. I got Open Office to replace Word and the such, and let me say I like it much better than the bloated monster that is Word but I still need some suggestions for the following:

1. I need a good e-mail client, I used to use Outlook on Windows. I have been looked at Ximian Evolution and Mozilla Thunderbird but really would like to hear what users have to say about these products or if there is a better one I have overlooked.

2. I used Winamp on Windows as my media player. I tried XMMS but it just felt sluggish sometimes. I have heard of an Itunes clone called Rythmbox but havent met anyone who has experienced it. Also it would be nice to know of any command line mp3 players so I wouldnt have to boot into X everytime I wanted to play a song.

3. I have used Dreamweaver in the past as my web page editor and am looking for something of its stature and grace for Linux. I have heard that you can get it working under Wine but wasnt sure if there wasnt anything better or equivalant to it already out there.

I know these are not the most mission critical apps in the world but they help me get my work done every day as a student. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have never used Evolution, but many people seem to like it. I use both Thunderbird and Kmail, and I like Thunderbird better. BTW, I used to use Outlook Express in Windows.

There is nothing exactly like Dreamweaver for Linux. I have never tried Wine, but I've heard that DW is kind of sluggish under it. In Linux I use Quanta Plus, which is a really nice HTML editor, but you do need to be a coder to use it. There are others, like Bluefish, Screem and Mozilla Composer. None of them have the features of DW, but they all have plenty of tools to help along with the coding.

Xmms - slow , I find it faster that winamp! I don't know about others out there, for that reason I haven't tried any others.
As for email client, when I first started using linux, it was the first I clicked on, so I use it. It does it's job.

Which e-mail client would that be, beejayzed ?

Bluefish is so much better than DW, IMO. Better than FrontPage also. Maybe its because it does more for _real_ coders than just people moving things around with their mouse and clicking buttons to add things, lol.

Amaya is a decent alternative to Dreamweaver, though it focuses on standards rather than features.
For email I just use mutt...I have no need or desire to see html email.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I am giving NVU a try and find it quit usable so far and mpg321 is freaking awesome.

Oh sorry, forgot to mention the name , evolution. :D
