Looking for a distro that will deteck my internet...only had success with SuSe

Hi
in the past i have tried mandrake 9.2 and knoppix, both of these distros did not detect a connection to the internet....i disabled my onboard lan and only used my pci nic, vice versa, i have even tried on a router and still nothing.....both distros seemed to know the make/model of my nics but i cant get a connection going...i thought it was just the nameservers but nope it isnt.

anyway, i have tried suse 9.1 personal...detects my internet no problem..im not sure why this is but i would like to find a different distribution that can do the same...maybe one that has development in mind(C++ compiler..suff like that)

i did like mandrake alot and i wonder if the new 10.0 would be able to connect me to the internet no prob.....

well..any sort of info regarding a different distro that should detect my internet easily, or why other distros dont do so...please reply it would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT::forgot to say-my isp assigns me an ip address via dhcp

my specs below:
amd 2100+ 1.7ghz
896 mb ddr RAM
geforce fx5200 256mb
SYNTAX sv400 mainboard
via rhine II onboard lan (currently disabled)
realtek RTL8139 nic
14 gig hd and a 7.5 gig hd (yes, i know..its not alot)

what about downloading the boot.iso and doing a full-blown pro install via ftp?

AMISHFURNITURE?

there's a store called Amish Furniture not too far from here.

I guess Amish would like linux better than windows. Linux is more of a do it yourself kind of operating system.

if you want suse pro 9.1...

download the boot.iso from suse.

burn it

boot from it

but before doing that, search the forums, I just ran across some interesting instructions today.

you can install pro 9.1 suse over the network. if you're paying for high speed internet access, youmight as well use it ;-)

otherwise, google around for awhile and you'll find the iso images, in europe somewhere...

also, novell did have a link where they would send you a 3 dvd set that included suse 9.1 pro.

good luck, and keep us informed!

Another one for good auto hardware / config is the gentoo livecd install. If you are not too horribly scared to do a little typing at the command prompt, it might be worth it, go for a Stage 3 Install and genkernel compile and wham, best distro on earth and a great learning experience
