Here's my scoop:

I have a box running RH9 that holds my CVS tree. It's about 200MB total.

I have another box running WinXP sitting next to it with 250GB SCSI, saying "back up to me" in it.

I'd like to come up with a way to automate something pretty simple to backup from my RH box to the XP machine, possibly with some kind of verification that the job was successful.

I'm *thinking* use samba, map to a drive on the XP box and setup some kind of perl script?

Any insight appreciated, I'm new at Linux in general but pretty good with Windows/general Networking.

you can use cron to schedule a shell script to do the backup. there are plenty on the web, and one i even posted somewhere on LQ. do a search with my username for backup script.

worked great for me, modify as needed.

take a look at www.rsnapshot.org - using rsync and scripts to do disk-based backups. There are links in here to other sites as well.
