Looking at source for checkgmail

I've recently been using checkgmail and I think it's a nifty little program. I wanted to look at the source code for it but in actuality have no idea how to. I know it's written in perl and I have that installed on my ubuntu machine via synaptic. When I download the tarball I get files that are an unknown file type and a change log.

All you need to do is look at the contents of the "checkgmail" file.
