Login users - OpenSuse 10.3

I continuously got an error when I try to start the software management in Yast:

SQL logic error, missing or missing database

Then I found this solution through www.google.com/linux:

Open Terminal
su
zypper refresh
zypper update

afterwards the terminal asked for a reboot of the system. After this reboot I cannot login any users.

But I can login as root...

When I login a new terminal session with my username, I cannot open my home folder: no such file or directory. While I see my username as a folder in the home folder.

Any help is appreciated,

Wouter Schimmel

Using tools such as yast and zypper require Administrator privileges to make changes. As a result, you will have to be root to undo any changes that have a negative effect, such as your ability to login as user.

1) check the permissions on your home folder: ls -l /home. Your home folder shoud show that you have permissions set to rwx for yourself, with you as the owner. It that has changes, su to root and run the command 'chown <your-user-name> /home/<your-user-name>'. If necessary, also run chmod to change your read-write-execute permissions.

2) check the file /etc/passwd to see that your user name is still listed as a user on the system. It it is not, you will have to re-create your user name.

how do I use the chmod command for my home folder?

The chown command doesn't solve anything,
My user is available in /etc/passwd

the weird thing is that I don't get any error. It just keeps trying to login my user until I see a empty black (or green) green with a cursor
And when I create a other user I have the same problem...
