login process?

redhat 8.0

i'd like to know files executed by the system during a login
i know that /etc/.bash_profile is one of them
but there is another one
what is it?

I'd like to answer your question in this way...firstly, there are two types of shells

1. login shells (where you put your username and password to log in) and

2. non-login shells ( which are opened subsequently where you dont need to login separately)

For login shells, this is the order of execution of scripts:

1. /etc/profile - this executes all scripts in the directory - /etc/profile.d

2. $HOME/.bash_profile

3. $HOME/.bashrc

For NON-login shells, the order of execution is as follows:

1. $HOME/.bashrc

2. /etc/bashrc - executes scripts in directory /etc/profile.d
