login problem
My system is RedHat7.3.
1. I can login as root user.
2. When I login as ordinary user, it login in then logout immediately.
3. When I use su command changing to ordinary user, it prompts "could not open session".
4. When I telnet as a ordinary user, it prompts "No directory /home/user". but the directory exists!
Could anyone tell me why?

I've similar problems after upgrading KDE. Try running gdm-config and see if you can verify your graphical login settings for your user. I'm a little rusty w/ 7.3 so maybe someone else can help....

check your /etc/passwd file. maybe the user is missing a login shell, or something funky like that.

I had something similar after doing a kernel upgrade from 2.4.19-16 to 2.4.19-24. Couldn't get back into KDE.
I could get in as a user under IceWM, so I went in there and used linuxconf to change my "real name" slightly so that the system re-wrote and checked whatever it had to. After that, I can log into KDE again.
HTH,
A.

prad, do these users have directories under /home?
also, we may want to check what shell they are using, perhaps that has changed or their shell is unavailable.
