Lock Icon
I copied some photos and folders from my CD's to my computer, but most of them have a lock over the icon. How do I get rid of this?

Sounds like a permissions problem. Did you copy them as root, and now you can't view them with your normal user? Either chmod them 644 or change ownership of them to your user...

I copied it under my normal username. I just got a hunch and figured it out though. I just right clicked on it, went to properties and then permissions and selected the write box. Thank you though.

In case you ever have an issue in the future and you cannot change the permissions that way, here's how to do it in the command line, just replace yourusername with your username, and make sure you are root when you do this:

chown -R yourusername /home/yourusername

chgrp -R yourusername /home/yourusername

chmod -R u+rwx /home/yourusername

This should fix any and all permissions issues with files you put anywhere in your home directory.
