Local data transfer software?

Is there a program that I can use to physically connect two computers (via a serial, parallel, USB, or other cable)? I need to transfer a large amount of data (on the order of a few GB) and it will be really cumbersome for me to try via zip disks or the internet. Does anyone have a good solution for me? Thanks
