Hi I have just downloaded the Komposer web development package to ubuntu. The link on ubuntu which usually configures and sets up the package did not work so I downloaded directly
I can not get the package to run, I have unzipped it and its a Mozilla folder.
I have tried an older version as the new one did not run either.
The version is komposer 0.7.10-scr.tar.bz2
Any help appreciated
When you say "...the link on Ubuntu..." are you talking about the Synaptic Package Manager? I installed Kompozer 0.8b1 from Synaptic Package Manager with no problem. It works great.
The src in the file name, komposer 0.7.10-scr.tar.bz2, indicates that this is likely source code which needs to be compiled and installed. Source tarballs usually contain a readme that explains how to install them.
The usual sequence of commands is
Code:
./configure
make
make install
If there are missing dependencies, the output of the make command will list them. Then you can go hunting for them.
There is likely a readme in the package that will explain how to do it.
Alternatively, this site has *.deb files for Kompozer. It's a little confusing to navigate, but click around and you'll find them:
Thanks for the feedback all,
Now working OK, for info on Linux novices;;
Stress junkie, No I actually meant that the Unbuntu Software Centre, did not load the programme, as it had uploaded previous packages. I obviously need to learn the technical bits.. However, I did manage to eventually upload it using the synaptic package manager, and it is now working fine.
Frankbell, I tried to use the code as I have used some code previously when encountering a problem with my soundcard. However, I did start to apply the code in the terminal, but decided to give the package manager a go before carrying on further with the code screen.
Knudfl, I looked at the site, tried clicking on the latest version, but realized I was going to embark on a similar trail to my last attempt. I think what was lacking is my confidence with the workings of Linux to configure/mount the correct bits of the package in the correct place, I afraid I still have a windows mentality of expecting the Linux/Ubuntu to do everything for me.
