Loading a program at startup?

Hi,

Does anyone know how to load a program at startup? I'm not talking about a shell command, but a program like KMix that uses X Windows. Any configuration file for KDE or XFree86 that specifies these programs?

my real problem is actually the reverse. For some reason, KMix starts up everytime I log in. How do I stop it from loading?

Thanks,
Vince

Control Center->Sound & Multimedia->Mixer and switch off Load Volumes on Login.

For other programs, a symbolic link in ~/.kde/Autostart

Where is this? I can't find it in the Mandrake Control Center nor the KDE Control Center nor KMix Preferences.

Its in the KDE Control Center. The Sound and Multimedia Item is in the list on the left. Click on it and further options should appear one of which is Mixer. Click on that and the module Should open, There is two buttons and the Top and below them the checkbox that you need to click.

Also right click on the speaker when it appears, and select configure Kmix, and unselect Dock into panel.

question

how do you load programs at start up with freebsd
for example with slackware you add the command to the /etc/rc.d/rc.local file

and for redhat you use ntsysv.
