loaded software question

I am brand new at Linux, having recently decided to make the switch. I like to figure out stuff as I go, but will probably have multiple newbie questions, so here goes. I've downloaded some software, (Acrobat Reader, for example) using rpm to install. Where the heck is it? If I go to config, software install, it's not there. If I go to software uninstall, it's there, so I assume the install was successful. Is it supposed to show up on the apps list automatically? I tried a search, no go.
By the way, using Mandriva 2006, with KDE 3.4. I know that once someone explains this to me, I'll feel dumb, but that's how we learn.

Many thanks in advance for taking the time to hold my hand through the initial learning curve.

To make matters worse, I'm new to forums, too.

Acrobat Reader should have been added to the Kde menu on installation. In my SuSE installation (Kde 3.4.0), Acrobat Reader is in Office -> Document Viewer.

If you don't have the Mandriva manuals (i.e.; installed from cd/dvd), look in /usr/share and /usr/share/doc. You will find a wealth of documentation. Especially, look for Mandrivas User and System administrators manuals. They will explain much that you need to know to manage you Mandriva installation.

Many thanks for your quick reply. Still not showing up in apps, under any heading. I'll have a look through the /usr/share. Thanks agian.

FYI, best way to install stuff in linux is with your package manager. RPMs can be non-distro specific but if you install Adobe via urpmi or RpmDrake in Mandriva you should always get menu entries etc setup for you
