lkl (linux keylogger) and wireless usb keyboards
 

How can I lkl to work with a wireless usb keyboard made by Logitech? Is there any other keyloggers for Linux that I can try? If I understand this correctly IO port 0x60 only works with the PS/2 driver. Is there a way to make LKL work with a USB keyboard. If anyone managed to get it working - please share.

I got mine to work with a little digging. Keep in mind I am still just a smart "newbie" so I may do something "wrong" in the process of getting things to work.

Everyone talks about how buggie lkl is but I haven't had any problems other than the whole "it doesn't log" thing :)

What I have figured out so far is that my external usb keyboard is not on /dev/input/event0

so I changed my startup script from:
logkeys --start

to
logkeys --start -d /dev/input/event6

(for some reason my keyboard is event6) If anyone knows how to query the list of "eventx" devices and tell what each one is that would have made the process quicker than trying event0, then 1, then 2, etc...

But it worked!/works!!

And before everyone throws in their youthful "key loggers are bad".. keep in mind there are those of us that have YOUNG teenage daughters that need a little parental oversight until they are older.. not to mention the need to monitor everything I type on my OWN netbook that I use for configuring cisco equipment (and God forbid I forget to do a write mem or to backup my configuration changes I made!!!!) it is just a useful and powerful tool :)

I already found that after several reboots the event id changed :(
So i followed deeper and found the keyboard by "path" I am hoping that this means it is always the same if it is plugged into the same USB port all the time? Don't know but here it is:

logkeys --start -d /dev/input/by-path/pci-0000\:00\:13.1-usb-0\:1\:1.0-event-kbd

(just look for the entry in the /dev/input/by-path/ folder that seems right) ignorant but working?

Trust/parenting: one child has already lost trust (doesn't deserve trust.. it is this or no computer in the house, blah blah blah) I don't have to get into a political/moral/parenting debate. I am addressing a purely technical issue here, if you want to discuss the politics of it, start a forum devoted to that type of debate.

Thanks for the response. And no, it's not a problem of replying to an older post. I still didn't have an answer. Though I am not attempting this right now anymore, it's good to know for future reference in case I do again. And somebody else might find this information useful through a search. Thanks.
