Living Without Gnome (Apps)

Hi,

I'm trying to run my machine without Gnome or KDE using Openbox and X or GTK2 applications and Qt3 for Opera. I'm running it on Gentoo.

However I've hit a few snags that I'd like your opinion on.

1) No process manager GUI (I can't find any GUIs that don't rely on Gnome or KDE). The closest I can find is a new branch of xfce4-taskmanager http://oliwer.net/b/gtaskmanager.html) but it's too new for my disrto to support.

2) No Sudo for X. I can't find any equivalent to gksudo that doesn't rely on Gnome or KDE. The closest I can find is consolehelper along with PAM (http://fedoranews.org/contributors/m...nsen/nautilus/) but consolehalper appears to only be for redhat. Well I can't find it on Gentoo.)

1) Take a look at LXDE's lxtask or just use htop/top

2)sudo sucks

Take a look at sux

Thanks for the heads up on those. I'd looked at the LX DE for a task manager but I must've missed it.

I'm not sure I understand how sux works or what it's supposed to do. The instructions page is pretty cryptic.

Have a look at WindowMaker and everything related. It's quite old and not so trendy anymore, but it works fine on older hardware and it is completely free of any Gnome and KDE dependencies. It has a large number of extra utilities, maybe you find some process manager.
