Type those in a terminal (case and spacing matters) and post their output here.

You might want to use code tags (click here for explanation) to post them in the forum.

tucker1 03-24-2011 02:30 PM

files?

What do you mean?

qlue 03-24-2011 09:59 PM

You're still using Linpus?
That's a stripped down version of Fedora 8
I'd recommend you install something like Ubuntu. Especially since, as you said, you're a novice.

tucker1 03-25-2011 10:53 AM

You go to the homepage from ubuntu,
Then you click the download button.
Burn the ISO to CD.

Also, can you try to use capital letters and use better grammar if it's not to hard? Your posts are a bit difficult to understand.

He meant that you have to type those commands ONE by ONE and post the "output" here.
e.g.
Code:

bash-4.1# ifconfig -a
eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:1d:72:52:94:29
          inet addr:192.168.1.4  Bcast:192.168.1.255  Mask:255.255.255.0
          inet6 addr: fe80::21d:72ff:fe52:9429/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
          RX packets:6392 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:6890 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:4796711 (4.5 MiB)  TX bytes:1699786 (1.6 MiB)
          Interrupt:17

lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:16436  Metric:1
          RX packets:48 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:48 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:2400 (2.3 KiB)  TX bytes:2400 (2.3 KiB)

wlan0    Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:21:00:0a:91:14
          BROADCAST MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 B)  TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)

bash-4.1#

The command's name is ifconfig -a, and rest following is its output.
You have to paste the "complete" output here whatever it is.
If you get an error like "command not found", run the command again after logging in root.

And as I said, capitalize sentences and names, and use proper punctuation. And if you insist on signing your posts with your name, capitalize it and put it on another line.

Anyway, what do you mean by "downloaded onto USB drive"? What steps did you take to do that? Because downloading an image file and copying it into the drive (so that you see the .img or .iso file when you open the drive) is wrong and will not work.

I have an Aspire One (model D150) and have successfully loaded Fedora 14 LiveCD (from USB stick). Fedora 14 recognized the the ethernet and wifi out of the box without further configuration, so it might be useful to you.

In order to get it to work for you, you'll need access to another computer with internet access.
1. Download the Fedora 14 LiveCD .iso file to your computer. You can find it here: http://fedoraproject.org/get-fedora
2. Then download and install the LiveCD Creator from Fedora's site: http://fedorahosted.org/liveusb-creator.
3. Run the LiveCD Creator program and have it install to your usb stick from the .iso image. (You'll need a stick no larger than 4GB formatted FAT to allow the Aspire One to recognize it in boot.)
4. Once you've created your Fedora 14 USB stick, plug it into your Aspire One and hit F12 when you see the Acer splash screen and select the USB stick as your boot device.

Fedora will then load. Once it has started and you're on the Fedora desktop, you will see an icon to allow you to install Fedora to your computer. Follow the instructions and you'll be fine.

Regardless if you decide to install to the computer or not, you should have working wifi and ethernet with the Fedora 14 OS.
