Exclamation List of problems in linux

Hi 2 all.

I've few questions. Plz give me the solution.

1) How to enable printscreen in RH Linux ( From text mode )to print directly to printer port (lpt).

2) I can't print PDF files in RH 8 from Gnome. I can print files in Openoffice but unable to print PDF files from XPDF.

3)Where Can I get the screenshots to setup dialup connections in RH Linux 8 ?

4) Where Can I get Nessus Setup screenshots ?

5) I've installed RH Linux 8 without installing X window, Gnome and Kde packages. What packages should I install from text to enable GUI mode ?

Thanks in Advance.

there are some commands for the CLI to print directly but i have no clue as for #5 with RH8 you will find it very hard to use yum (packet manager) to install anything as RH8 has been out of support for YEARS!!!

even RH9 is hard to get legacy support to work properly with yum via the fedora legacy project.

if your hardware can handle a newer distro i would sujest that. if not you can try setting yum up with RH8 and for getting the xwindow working i would sujest the following packages:

1. xserver
2. xserver-common
3. x11free (do not know if you will find a yum or rpm for RH8 for xorg)
4. kdm
5. kde

and start from there. follow the print outs on the screen for troubleshooting or post them here for added help.

Unless you are using a 486/33 with 4MB of RAM you need a newer distro and most of what you are asking will be resolved out of the box with no configuration needed. Fedora Core 5 is the current open source incarnation of RH, if you want to stay with that distro. It is a good beginner distro. So is Suse. So is Xandros. So are a lot of others. If you can get along well without a GUI then you may be fine to jump up to a sleeker and faster (read: less newbie-friendly) distro like Slack, Gentoo, or Debian, but they will take a little more effort to get ticking...
