Vector is Slackware based, so you can pull packages from www.slackware.com and www.linuxpackages.net.

I tried a package from www.linuxpackages.net but I couldn't get it to work. Is there a module i need to load for lirc?
This is my electronics lab computer i have noppp, xoscope and i need lirc to do infrared work. The hard drive is only 1.2gb and vector works good. Should I try another distro?
If so which one.
Thanks

For the modprobe one, maybe try add the following line to your /etc/rc.d/rc.modules file:
/sbin/modprobe -f lirc_serial

I found some examples in the remotes directory , but nothing I can use. There is also a file in the documentation directory showing different key codes ,but again not what I needed. Oh yeah ,did you know if you point a digital camera at a remote control you can see the led light up,cool huh.
well if anyone has any idea how to make my caps lock and shift keys work in my .lircrc file please help.
