LIRC make error "`HID_MAX_USAGES' undeclared hereĻ

Any ideas?

I am trying to compile lirc-0.8.0 on slackware current with kernel

In file included from hw_hiddev.c:23:
/usr/include/linux/hiddev.h:134: error: `HID_MAX_USAGES' undeclared here (not in a function)
make[2]: *** [hw_hiddev.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/jim/src/lirc-0.8.0/daemons'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/jim/src/lirc-0.8.0'
make: *** [all] Error 2

I would really like to get my Creatives Labs usb remote RM-1500 working
