Thumbs up LinuxMCE and Android Gmote

I'm building a HTPC and am planning on using LinuxMCE. I've been reading about the extensive capabilities of LinuxMCE and am pretty excited about wiring up my "Smart Home."

What I'm even more excited about is my new G1 and the crazy possibilities that Android offers. There is an Android app that has been out for a while called Gmote that reportedly works with Linux. This is an app that turns your phone into a basic remote for your media center (stop, play, etc.) I believe you can browse files with it as well.

My ultimate goal is to be able to control all aspects of my smart home from my Android phone. I want to be able to control my movies and music, turn on/off electronics, see live video/audio from network cameras on my G1 screen, control light dimming, everything.

I seriously doubt we are anywhere near this kind of seamless integration between the two platforms, but that's what I would like to see someday.

Anyway, I'd like to hear from people using Gmote and LinuxMCE. What has your experience been like? Do they work well together? What are the capabilities and limitations? Is initial setup difficult?

Thanks for your feedback.

HTPC Specs (so far):
Lian-Li PC-C37B Case
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 - 3.0 GHz
Asus PQ5-E Green - Intel P45 Chipset
Corsair Dual Channel TWINX 4GB PC6400 DDR2
LG Super Multi Blu-Ray/HD-DVD ROM
Ultra LSP650 650-watt Power Supply

Nexus One and LinuxMCE

I know this thread is over six months old, but I believe it is still very relevant. I have just received my first Android phone - Google's Nexus one - and have a linuxMCE installation running. Once I get some spare time I will start working on syncing the two together as Toonses82 has spoke about and keep the community posted on the results. Toonses82, have you had any luck with connections or displays?

You know, I bagged LinuxMCE for now (due to limited spare time) and have just been running openSUSE 11.2 on my media center which works well for most things. I plan on coming back to XBMC or LinuxMCE or something similar soon.

Gmote on my Android phone, however, has been awesome! It is a great app that works well with Linux and VLC.

I'd still like to run my home from my Linux-based smartphone, but I'll have to revisit it when I have more free time. I've noticed this project as well which looks like it's trying to bring a home automation app to android. however, development seems slow if not stalled all-together. I look forward to when I can dive into this again and get my home all set up.
