Linux Won't Boot
I recently installed RH 8.0. Upon restart, everything looks fine until I get the following:
ext2_fs error (device ide0(3,2)): ext2_check_page: bad entry in directory #2: unaligned directory entry pivotroot: pivot-root(/sysroot, /sysroot/initrd) failed: 2 umount /initrd/proc failed: 2 kernel panic: no init found. Try passing init= option to kernel Where do I begin? I've already attempted reinstalling once to no avail. I checked my installation media (CD), and they passed the test. |
You don't say what you are trying to install RH8 onto! If you can be a little more specific with you hardware as RH8 seems to be very particular. I have installed RH8 on my laptop and on my desktop at home, however, tried installing it on a desktop at work and it failed. Any further information may be of help otherwise make sure you are meeting the minimum system requirements.

I have a system similar to yours (a Dell XPS R400 with a 400 MHz Pentium II, but with three hard drives) and had all kinds of trouble loading RH 8.0. The CD that I downloaded and burned got into the installation phase OK but would always hang up before finishing (a check of it's md5 said it was OK). A RH CD that I bought (not from RH, but a $5 one) would hang up repeatedly at the blue install screen. I finally gave up and went to Mandrake 9.0 -- no problems at all.
