Linux uses up Disk 2 for swap space

While installing Suse Linux on Disk1 I was given the option to use /dev/hdb1 for swap space. I took that to mean Disk2, partition 1. That would be fine but the installation used the entire 40 gb of Disk 2 for swap space. What did I do wrong?

At some point, the installer will tell you EXACTLY how it is going to setup the partitions.

What is your configuration? # and size of drives? dual boot with windows, etc.?

If all you need to do is re-size swap, that's going to be easy with fdisk. But first, let's look at you overall configuration---so we can give you more help than you requested...

Don't know what caused it but you can fix it like this.

swapoff -a
fdisk /dev/hdb
Partition /dev/hdb and create a small swap partition, e.g. /dev/hdb5
mkswap -v1 /dev/hdb5
swapon /dev/hdb5
edit /etc/fstab and point swap to /dev/hdb5
