Linux Ubuntu 16.04 logging out a moment after logging in

The battery recently slipped out of my sister's laptop, causing a hard reset, and since then she's found that when she tries to log in, it logs her back out after a moment. There are no error messages or black screen and the guest session still works.

I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this? Thanks in advance for any replies.

There's since been the error message 'failed command flush cache ext' and 'comreset failed error 16' if that's any help.

ETA: Also ata1.01 status DRDY ERR

Location: Earth? I would say I hope so but I'm not so sure about that... I could just be a figment of your imagination too.
Distribution: Currently OpenMandriva. Previously openSUSE, PCLinuxOS, CentOS, among others over the years.

Those messages to me look like their coming from libata that manages things like SATA drives for the Linux kernel.
Run the following command and post the output using CODE tags:

Code:
dmesg | grep -i ata
also,

Code:
smartctl -a /dev/sdX
Replace "sdX" with the correct device node, that represents the drive with your Linux install on it.

Thanks for the advice! She managed to solve it by fiddling and then updating and restarting.
