linux time runs fast

i recently threw together a new system (athlon 64 x2) and put fedora core 4 on it. i noticed, however, that the clock time runs fast. the bios maintains the correct time, however. for instance, when i reboot the system, linux displays the correct time. a day later, it will be 15 or so minutes fast. acouple days later and it will be over an hour fast. any clues/suggestions?? thanks a bunch
