Linux support for intel's 64bit?

Now that I read all these reviews that intel's latest offering, core duo 2, blows away amd, and I am in the market for an upgrade, I am curious. What is the support like for intel's 64bit solution?

will the fedora isos, x86_64 work on an intel core duo?

Being as 64 bit processors are still relatively new, 64 bit support is still pretty sketchy. There are 64 bit versions of a few distros like Debian, SuSE, FC, and Gentoo among others, for a fully functional system with all features and apps you'll still need both 64 bit and 32 bit libs.

Eventually as 64 bit processors become the norm we'll see more and more 64 bit compatability.

I'm running Slack (32 bit) on my 64 bit processor. Hopefully eventually 64 bit will catch up.

How is that running? I am looking into buying an AMD fx processor but running slackware or Zenwalk on it. Just curious.

Linux has pretty good 64bit support. I found absolutely nothing wrong with it for normal desktop usage but if things like Flash and WMV9 are vitally important you may have a few issues.

yea but

The thing I'm wondering, is intels 64bit and amd's 64bit offering compatable. Are the apps I download that say x86_64 going to work with intel, as amd64 has been around for years and enjoys much support, I have never seen an app that says emt64.

x86_64 is fine. I have a Pentium D machine here that I ran Frugalware on for a while. It was compiled for amd64 (k8) and it ran fine on the Intel. The Itanium CPU line isn't compatible I don't think. I know I can't run a IA64 binary on my amd64 machine.
