Linux Software Sites?

Brand new to Linux, JUST installed Kubuntu 5.04 yesterday. I have 1 day of Linux experience thusfar. That said, are there any decent sites where one can test out software releases? For M$ here are a billion shareware sites etc, where a guy can test out variious releases.

Does the same apply for Linux and if so where should I look?

Thx for the help = }

www.freshmeat.net
www.sourceforge.net

They are the 2 most popular.

Also, K/Ubuntu comes with Apt-Get which has around 8000+ packages available to it.
