Thumbs up Linux Software RAID1. Error please help.

Dear List

I do have a Fedora server with following partition table.

Disposit. Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 1 14338 115169953+ 83 Linux
/dev/hda2 14339 14593 2048287+ 82 Linux swap

Disposit. Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hdd1 1 14338 115169953+ fd Linux raid autodetect

I would like to create RAID1 on this server for this I had applied the following command

mdadm --create /dev/md0 --chunk=4 --level=1 --raid-devices=2 /dev/hda1 /dev/hdd1

And the following error occured

mdadm: SET_ARRAY_INFO failed for /dev/md0: Device or resource busy

How can I fix this or did I made a wrong thing ?

Are the devices that you use to create the array mounted anywhere on your system? Then you need to unmount them first.

You do not use multipath, do you? If so you should use the according devices like /dev/mpath/mpath0p1 etc.

If you failed to create the raid array before maybe you have to stop it to assemble it again.

Code:
# mdadm -S /dev/md0

Have you resolve this issue, recently i got same issue on FC6. i think this is due to SE-LINUX, but i am not getting this on RHEL 4 (having SE-Linux disabled).

second, i have 30 raid devices in RHEL 4. ls -l /dev/md*, lists approximately 30 devices. whereas there aren't on FC6.

if you have recovered from this, let me know also about this.

thanks.
