Linux Software distribution Tools - How do you deploy sw packages?

Hello All,
I am looking for a new remote sw distribution tool and am looking for some info on what else is being used out there. We have a need to send sw packages ( not linux images per se but updates, patches, proprietary packages, etc ) to about 800 remote locations of SuSE 11 linux servers. We send out alot of stuff and many times we send all 800 the same package.

We are currently using a commercial multicast product but are looking for other options. Seems sending out 1x to 800 locations makes more sense than sending out 800x.

If you have to get a package out to a large number of remote locations quickly & reliably, what are you using? Package size can be upwards of 100 mb.

Anyone have experience or input on Murder ? I assumed it would be great for deployment is a huge data center but not for multiple remote locations.

Thanks,
Steve

First of all, I use effing-package-manager to create packages that can be used.

I have a yum repo where I host the package and updates:

The on each server, I push the repo config to them using chef. So they can download and install the packages.:

And a little bit of cron work to get yum update -y to run once a day. Or I can push the update using Chef.

Total cost: 0$
